Train beats the car for relaxing holiday journeys

AS PARENTS prepare for the summer holiday drive to the coast, research shows eight out of 10 Doncaster motorists would rather let the train take the strain.

With holiday traffic making the country's roads busier than ever, journeys will take longer and drivers will be even more stressed.

New research reveals this holiday season will see road rage, traffic terrors and steering wheel stress a plenty as we take to our cars for our annual family trip.

The survey, carried out for Virgin Trains, examined the attitudes of over 2,000 people to driving in the UK today and showed a huge 80 per cent of Doncaster residents perceived driving to be more stressful than taking the train.

It also found that younger drivers are more inclined to keep a lid on their frustrations at the wheel while the over 55s are the most uptight when in the driving seat, losing their temper the most over traffic jams and road works.

The research has also shown the physical problems that manifest themselves as a result of driving on Britain's roads. According to those surveyed the biggest symptoms associated with driving include tiredness, headaches and a short temper.

Those in Yorkshire were the most stressed when it comes to driving with 86 per cent admitting to be annoyed by roadworks whereas in Edinburgh residents find other drivers the most stressful part of driving.

And anyone from Doncaster heading up or down the A1 for their holiday will be interested to know it is fourth on the list of most stressful roads.
