TEENAGER Robert Tepper had "a passion for wheels" according to the priest who conducted his funeral yesterday.
The Vicar of Mexborough, Fr David Wise, gave mourners a resume of the 17-year-old's life, which was cut short in a road traffic collision just after Christmas.
Robert, a former pupil of Pitt Street Junior School and Mexborough, was said to be "very sociable and popular" with a great many friends.
Fr Wise said both of Robert's grandfathers played an important part in his upbringing, with one reading him stories and the other encouraging his interest in fishing.
Robert - also known as Bobby to his family - was a junior member of the Ferryboat Fishing Club and even travelled as far afield as Scotland and Holland to cast his line.
"He loved living life to the full, and from a young age had a passion for wheels," said the vicar.
He said Robert had started with a bike and graduated to a quad bike and a scooter before being given driving lessons for his 17th birthday.
It was while riding the scooter that he had his first road accident at the age of 16, with the machine being smashed to bits, according to Fr Wise.
Robert got his own car as soon as he had passed his driving test and his relationship with Lauren Birkett, who was also killed in the car crash, "helped mature him from a boy to a young man".
Fr Wise said the Tepper family "appreciate the support and comfort of so many in these dark days, giving them the strength to carry on".
His final message to the mourners was to "go on talking about Bobby to help each other through the pain and the grief".
