TODAY'S WOMAN: Jo gives the treatment a go
BEING energised is nothing like they used to do in Star Trek. But it does feel a bit alien.
I'm lying on a beauty couch and next to me, a machine is beeping away; it sounds like the Clangers are playing Space Invaders.
On a screen, a diagram of a svelte woman is slowly changing from blue to green. I look nothing like her, but the coloured patches on her body correspond to the energy levels in mine. They are being picked up by the probe therapist Samantha Justice is stroking my gel-coated stomach with.
It's a familiar sensation; the first time was nigh on 20 years ago and I was pregnant.
This time it's all about reducing the size of my stomach, not watching it grow.
Sam has already photographed my bare belly, taken three waist measurements, checked for contra-indications (like epilepsy, a pacemaker and pregnancy) and told me about the need to eat more healthily, exercise and drink more water afterwards.
Soon, there are more green patches than blue; Perfect Woman is starting to look like a Hero Turtle, which means my energy cells should respond well to the next stage - the treatment.
But there is no sensation whatsoever. The only reason I can tell treatment has begun is because Sam has swapped her magic wand for a little roller and slapped on some different gel.
An hour later, I step back in front of the camera for my "after" pictures and Sam carefully re-measures me. I check the tape each time and I'm amazed... My waistline has gone down an inch, I've lost half an inch from my upper waist and 0.2 of an inch from just below my waist.
I can't wait to get back into my skirt to see if it feels looser.
Disappointingly, it feels only slightly more comfortable, as do the jeans I try on later. So much for an inch making all the difference...
I did also try an anti-ageing facial treatment (1,500 for a course of
12) and although I could see very slight differences in the before and after pictures when Sam pointed them out ("look, your eyebrows are higher and your cheeks look a bit lifted here") I wasn't raring to go back for more.
