Charity shops are booming in the recession. So much so that one local chain is expanding to meet increased demand. St Luke's Hospice already has shops in Abbeydale, Chapeltown, Crookes, Ecclesall, Gleadless, Stocksbridge and Woodseats.
And next month will see the launch of a new branch in Hillsborough's shopping centre, with plans for a ninth in Nether Edge to follow.
Last year saw St Luke's named the most successful charity shops in the country at the national Association of Charity Shop awards.
"We were delighted to win the award but that means we now have to work even harder to make sure we do even better in 2011," said the hospice's Head of Retail, Karen Britton.
"We get marvellous support from people."
The new Hillsborough branch will be officially opened by Star journalist Jo Davison on Friday, February 4, at 10.30am.
