The Magi win music video competition with Voodoo Taboo - VIDEO

HEY presto! Voodoo Taboo, a track recorded by local band The Magi, has won The Star Readers' Award – in a recent music video competition.

WATCH VIDEO: Press the green play button to watch the winning video Voodoo Taboo.

The video, by Martin Currie's film making team The Strangers, had already won an Audience Award in Sheffield's 2 Weeks 2 Make It challenge.

The annual competition teams up local bands and budding film makers to produce music videos – from start to finish - in just two weeks.

Yo Yo Static and the Shockettes, with Richard Bolam's film team, Electric Chaos, won the competition's Grand Prize with a video for their song, I Am A.

But the Magi have stolen the show with most votes from Star readers.

2 Weeks 2 Make It organisers Rob Spreanza, of South Yorkshire Filmmakers Network and Ed Carlidge, of Sort Of Films Ltd, were supported by Sheffield Independent Film, Screen Yorkshire, Sugarcane Creative, The Sensoria Festival of Film and Music and The Showroom Cinema.

We invited Star readers to view all 18 music videos and vote for their favourite on line.

The mysterious Magi and film maker Martin will now be featured in a forthcoming feature in The Star and the band will be invited to perform an exclusive session, to be hosted on our website. So stay tuned.

Martin said: "We made the video in March – quite a while ago.

"The publicity would be gratefully accepted. It will allow is to contact potential clients and send out showreels."
