...And from one Christmas cracker of a story to another...
Sheffield alt-pop boy band The Ratells – fresh from completing a sold-out UK tour – are organising a special Christmas raffle in which they are the prize.
The four-piece – front man and bassist Ashley Holland, guitarists Danny Clare and Sam Humphries, and drummer Ben Stubbs – will head over to the winner’s home, cook dinner and play a show in their front room.
Safe to say, it might not be a competition for anyone who associates modern music with telling the kids to: ‘turn that racket down’. But if you like your South Yorkshire guitar licks, it could be a pretty special night in.
“We’re becoming incredibly bored of hearing bands moaning at how hard it is these days when they’re probably sat at home expecting things to just happen because they’ve put a couple of songs out on iTunes,” says Ashley, 20. “Everything we do, we literally do ourselves – no management, no label, no outside influence – and that includes this raffle.”
They will cook a turkey, and do the waiting and washing up. After that, they’ll crack on with a couple of songs.
Tickets are £1 from theratells.com/raffle with half of all money raised going to Cancer Research UK,
The draw will be made on December 19
