Tattoo event bids to break world record

THREE hundred top tattoo artists will join forces in Doncaster this weekend to try to break a world record.

The attempt for the most people tattooed simultaneously will be made at Tattoo Jam, the UK's biggest tattoo convention, where more than 300 members of the public will take the chair at once to serve as the canvass for the pictures.

An adjudicator from Guinness World Records will be on hand to determine if their efforts are successful.

Currently the record for the most people tattooed simultaneously stands at 178, set last year at The London Tattoo Convention.

But Tattoo Jam has lined up more than 300 artists from around the world who will all be in action at 2pm on Saturday in an attempt to set the new record for more than 300 people.

Organisers are appealing for 13 members of the public to act as stewards for the occasion and ensure the event runs smoothly.

Volunteers must be available to be at Doncaster Racecourse from noon on Saturday.

Everyone who helps out will receive a memorabilia T-shirt and certificate to mark the occasion.

There will also be the chance for Doncaster residents to become part of the record bid by going under the needle as part of the attempt.

Anyone interested must make a 2pm booking - either in advance of the event or early on the same day.

Email event organiser Shelley Curry at info@tattoojam.co.uk to volunteer to be a steward for the record attempt or to arrange a 2pm tattoo on Saturday.

Among those taking part will be acclaimed skin art specialists Paul Booth, Brandon Bond and Louis Molloy, the man behind David Beckham's tattoos.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Mariamarta Ruano-Graham said: "We have been invited by Tattoo Jam to adjudicate its record-breaking attempt to achieve the most people being tattooed simultaneously

"This looks set to be an impressive, if rather painful, record attempt and I look forward to joining everyone at Tattoo Jam."
