Takeaway Test: Italian Express, South Road, Walkley

Have your say

Italian Express in Walkley serves up a whole host of authentic dishes at bargain prices.

I opted for a lasagne, carbonara and a garlic bread. At £15.30 the lot, it was a bargain price, which made me worry the food would be a bargain taste. Dead wrong. The delicious lasagne packed a fresh, tomato-led taste topped with a layer of crispy cheese without being greasy.

The carbonara - a creamy mix of penne pasta, ham and onions, was even better. Just the right balance of cheese at another gobsmacking price.

The large pizza-sized garlic flatbread - fresh, light and seasoned just right - was the icing on the cake. Though a debit card machine wouldn’t go amiss...

At roughly a fiver apiece, any Italian could have served up either main for at least twice the price and it would still seem worth it.
