STYLEFILE: Getting to grips in denim
They are the jeans that older women dream of... Denims that hug you in all the right places, cover up your midriff bulge and lift your bottom. Just as importantly, they don't look like they're supposed to be adorning the tiny figure of someone 20 years younger. But do they work? We tried out an economy version and the market-leaders...
The perfect fit at the perfect price? Is it possible? One of the cheapest versions of figure-shaping jeans launch in good old Bhs this month.
Their Dream Jean costs a very reasonable 30 and is made with four-way stretch technology which means the jeans mould themselves to you. The claim is they make you look a dress size smaller.
Do they work? A treat! I tried a pair of straight-legs in black denim and found them extremely comfortable. Stretchy, yet firm and snug enough to hold everything in. Contour seaming inside made my stomach look flatter, too.
Comfort's at the top of the list
One of the first brands on the market, Miraclebody Jeans, at 130 a throw, come from the makers of Miraclesuit, known globally for their figure-shaping swimming costume, the Miraclesuit.
These premium brand jeans promise wearers: "Look 10lbs lighter in 10 seconds!' I tried a pair of ultra-stylish straight-legs in dark denim with gold stitching and was amazed how slim I looked in them. My only complaint? The sizing. I'm a 12 but easily got into a ten.
But after several hours of wear I was left feeling I should have bought an eight. Perhaps I shouldn't complain
