THERE’S something about that face. With her razor sharp cheekbones and piercing eyes it’s no wonder model Sam Rollinson is the latest Brit to make her mark on the industry.
At the age of 18 Sam from Bessacarr, Doncaster can already lay claim to gracing the pages of Vogue magazine, landing a Burberry campaign shot by Mario Testino and being booked as a worldwide exclusive for Balenciaga.
And after striding her way to the top of catwalks in London, New York, Paris and Milan the former Hall Cross pupil is tipped to be the next big thing.
With Models.com selecting her as a top 10 newcomer and the London Evening Standard calling her a “rising star of 2013” the future certainly looks bright.
Sam said: “I was only 13 when I was scouted, so I didn’t really know what I wanted to do at that age.
“I was scouted at The Clothes Show whilst shopping with my mum, it was very unexpected.”
The modest teen who is signed to top agency Select Models Management is taking fame in her stride.
“When I landed the Burberry campaign it was brilliant. But I was only 15, so at the time it didn’t really sink on how important it was and growing up, I never thought I’d end up in Vogue. It’s lovely knowing you’re going to be in the next issue of Vogue.”
“Being booked as a worldwide exclusive for Balenciaga during the S/S 13 show season was also great experience, I loved it, and it’s opened a lot of doors for me.”
Sam, who is now based in London, is kept busy as the offers keep flooding in.
“A typical day is spent on a plane to New York or on a Eurostar to Paris, or if I’m off, relaxing and baking.
“I’ve just spent a full month doing fashion weeks, in New York, London, Milan and Paris, then straight into shooting editorials.
“I’m going to do modelling as long as people keep booking me and then, after that, I’m not sure yet, I did well in my A-levels, so I could go to university. I guess I’ll just wait and see how it all pans out in the long run.
“My family and friends think it’s great, and they’ve all always been very supportive of my modelling, which is nice.”
Susannah Hooker Head of New Faces at Select Models Management was the woman who first spotted Sam’s potential while she was scouting at The Clothes Show in Birmingham.
She said: “Sam was shopping with her mum and it was those amazing cheekbones that I first saw, I remember when I first saw Sam she had a skater kind of look and all different colours in her hair but you have to look past the styling.
“Sam’s potential was obvious and when I approached her about modelling she was really shocked, which was really sweet. I always knew she was a star and it was just about getting clients to see that too. For me Sam has the potential to be a top model and still be around in 30 years time like Stella Tennant.
“She has the ability to re-invent herself. She can pull off the classic beauty look and then transform and be almost androgynous I think that will be the key to her longevity. She is so down to earth and just takes everything in her stride
“It’s so nice to see a girl you believe in do so well, seeing Sam do so well has made me feel like a proud mum
“The models call me Mama Suze and I’m in constant contact with them and feel protective towards them.”
