Students earn free driving lessons

HARD-working Doncaster students have received laptops or free driving lessons after completing a new course.

About 50 Doncaster College students aged between 16 and 19 who enrolled on the Fresh Start programme in March and who progressed on to a mainstream course with the organisation in September all received gifts.

The Fresh Start is a programme which the college runs for young people not in education, employment or training - giving them a short burst of learning covering subjects such as hair and beauty, floristry, animal care, childcare, performing arts, hospitality and catering, IT, travel and tourism, construction, technology and much more.

Students who progressed on to courses following the Youth Access programme at college have also been rewarded with laptops or driving lessons.

College principal Rowland Foote gave out the laptops at a ceremony at The Hub site. He said: "This is a fantastic achievement for these students. They have done one of the hardest things - they've come back and tried learning for a second time, and it's worked for them."
