Student Karina is bloomin' marvellous
FLORISTRY student Karina Hryckowian blossomed when she came out on top after competing in the World Skills UK heat.
Karina, aged 24, who lives near Epworth, is currently studying Level 2 floristry at Doncaster College's Hub campus and impressed judges at the nationwide competition earlier this month.
Competing in the Intermediate category against students from across the country at Askham Bryan College, Karina produced four designs to wow the judges and pick up the title of overall winner.
She must now wait to find out if she picked up enough points to make it through to the national final of the competition, to be held later this year at Tatton Park in Cheshire.
Karina said: "It feels really good to have been named overall winner, I just really enjoy floristry.
"I have taken other courses in other subjects at a different college but now I think I have found what I want to do with my life. The course at Doncaster College is great and I can't wait to do my Level 3 here next year."
Kerry Marr, an assistant director at Doncaster College, said: "Karina is a perfect student with bags of talent and is a joy to teach. Her work is truly brilliant."
College Level 1 student Caroline Mitchell also took part in the event, finishing in first place in the competition's mystery item category.
