Stagestruck corgi bows out

THIS week will be a bit of a downer for Foxy, the South Anston corgi, who won a part in the Lyceum's production of the BFG.

The dog that bow wow wowed the audience won't have a show to do.

Foxy won the theatre's Bone Idol talent contest and was so good in her walkies-on part for the matinee last Wednesday that owner Jane Crawshaw was asked to bring her back for the evening performance and again for Friday's two shows.

"She did so well. She has become a star in her own right," says theatre publicist Philip Strafford.

We shouldn't have been surprised.

Jane says that back home in South Anston "Foxy has royal status in the village" and is used to being petted and stroked.

The extra shows and Foxy's good naturedness - she quickly made friends with theatre staff - meant that Jane, instead of waiting in the wings to hand her over and collect her from the actors, could see the show herself.

"It all goes to show you can teach an old dog new tricks," says Philip.
