Sisters act for war heroes on front line

A TEAM of four sisters are in running mode after being inspired by the courage of a Doncaster soldier wounded in Afghanistan.

The quartet have entered their first half marathon to raise thousands of pounds for his regimental charity.

One of them, Carys Clyde, aged 28, is the wife of Coldstream Guards Sgt Mark Clyde, who last year was blown up twice while on patrols in Helmand.

Mark, from Denaby Main, is still recovering from his severe injuries but the treatment he has received, and the assistance from the Guards, has inspired his three sisters-in-law to get fit for the half marathon next month.

Rhian, Bethan and Elinor Hampson-Jones, aged 26, 24, and 23, are running as Team H-J in the Reading Half Marathon on March 21 in aid of the Coldstream Guards Charitable Fund.

Rhian, a legal executive in London, said: "Mark was injured in Afghanistan and some of his colleagues more seriously so.

"We decided to do this to try raise money for the charity who provide assistance to all ranks of the Coldstream Guards, both past and present, their wives, widows, children and other dependants.

"Only one of us has completed a half marathon before so it is a big challenge and we have all been sticking to our training regimes since the start of the year, albeit sometimes in about five layers when running in the snow and rain!

"We have still managed to clock up in excess of 400 miles between us so far, which is pretty impressive when you think that before training started some of us hadn't run further than to the doors of the shops for the Christmas sales!

"It is our way of saying thank you."

The sisters have a donation site www.justgiving.com/teamh-j where they have raised over 3,000 so far after raising their original target from 2,000,
