Shopping centre supports cancer fund
LAKESIDE Village shopping centre has named Macmillan Cancer Support in South Yorkshire as its nominated charity for 2009.
Staff at the centre, next to White Rose Way, Doncaster, have raised more than 50,000 for charities including Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice over the last few years.
Fundraising activities have included sky dives, Santa dashes, fancy dress days and even locking people up in prison.
Lakeside Centre manager Cheryl Sadler said: "Many people across the region are affected by cancer and Macmillan plays an important role in providing these people with support, advice and financing.
"We are proud to be supporting such a worthwhile local charity. We have lots of fun activities planned throughout the year to raise not only awareness of the charity, but as much money as possible to support its work."
Macmillan in South Yorkshire provides practical, medical, emotional and financial support to those affected by cancer.
The money raised by Lakeside Village and its employees throughout the year will contribute towards Macmillan grants schemes, information and support services and more medical posts.
Sarah Teale, fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support South Yorkshire, said: "We are thrilled Lakeside Village has chosen Macmillan as its nominated charity. We look forward to working with the centre."
