Sculptress leads lessons in stone carving
WORLD-renowned Brazilian sculptress Renata Barcelos will be leading a beginner's course in stone carving at Doncaster College this summer.
Originally from Sao Paolo, Renata has recently relocated from southern Spain to Doncaster after being flooded out of her last studio.
The course will give students an opportunity to work with local stone to produce a small organic sculpture in an informal but intensive one week course.
Ian Latham, programme manager in the college's arts faculty, said: "Renata is passionate about creating works that are designed to be touched as well as seen.
"At the end of the course students should have a sculpture to take home with them that will last a lifetime."
This initiative is a pilot for the development of summer art classes at the college, with future courses planned covering painting, ceramics and welded sculpture.
Renata's work is currently on display in the Brevon Gallery, Bass Terrace, Doncaster.
