School's reward for doing things by the book

DON Valley School and Performing Arts College has won a National Literacy Trust award for its work to get youngsters reading.

The school has been named the trust's School of the Year for 2009/10 and will receive a certificate and 300 as its prize for work on its Reading Connects scheme.

The award is for setting up cross-curricular events, reading groups, projects with local primary schools.

Its strong links with parents were also praised by the organisers.

School librarian Lyn Hopson said: "This is open to schools all over the country, so I am absolutely delighted."
