Return to the golden days of retail
CAN you help with a new book recalling Sheffield's shopping heyday in the Seventies?
Then the big department stores included Paulden's, Cockaynes, Walshes and Redgates, which people travelled miles to visit.
Writer Emma Greendale is researching a new book, Shopoholics Guide to 1970s Sheffield, compiled by the producers of The Reel Monty, the promotional film of the city which appears in the beginning of the film, The Full Monty.
She wants photographs, stories and memories of shoppers and staff who worked in the city centre.
"City centre shops are struggling at the moment and we hope by reminding people what we used to have that we can encourage potential investors to think seriously about Sheffield," she says.
You can send pictures and stories to emma@allcredit,edia.com or drop them into The Star's office on York Street.
The book will be out this autumn.
