Residents and service users team up to collect gifts for soldiers overseas
BRITISH troops serving overseas are set for a Christmas boost – thanks to the community at Milton Court in Doncaster.
Residents from the flats complex at Balby Bridge, and users and staff of an NHS centre there, teamed up to fill 70 shoe boxes with Christmas gifts for soldiers.
They collected shoe boxes from shops, lined them with Christmas paper, and bought books, snacks and toiletries. The filled boxes will be given to soldiers as part of the Support our Soldiers Christmas Parcel Appeal 2008.
Residents at Milton Court are mental health service users in rehabilitation, although there are also flats on the same site.
Milton Court Activities Group secretary Susan Axtell said: "We hope these Christmas parcels bring some festive cheer to soldiers serving overseas.
"This project is one of many that the residents of Milton Court have joined together to take part in to help other people. It demonstrates how older people and mental health service users can live and work together in a harmonious relationship and help to support a good cause."
The flats complex is owned by Leger Homes and Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust.
