Point your phone to check your dinner with hi-tech system
DONCASTER residents are to be able to check council food hygiene ratings - by pointing their mobile phone at a restaurant.
The application has been created by Scores on the Doors, a public information service which holds the official local authority hygiene ratings for food businesses. Doncaster Council is one of a number of councils which contribute to the www.scoresonthedoors.org.uk website.
The authority inspects food businesses to check food safety is being properly managed and ensure food served is safe to eat.
The system works by sending a radar signal and then accessing the Score on the Doors website.
Coun Cynthia Ransome, Doncaster Council's cabinet member for regulatory services, said: "In the first six months of this year the Scores on the doors website recorded nearly 41,000 requests for information about cafes, restaurants and takeaways in Doncaster.
"This new technology makes it even easier for people to find the cleanest places to eat within the borough."
To download the application for free go to http://bit.ly/ukfoodhygiene or the itunes appstore and search for Food Hygiene under the lifestyle section.
