Over 80 real ales to savour at festival

REAL ale experts are putting the final touches in place for next week's Doncaster Beer Festival, run by Campaign for Real Ale.

The event is open to the public from 6pm on Thursday, while on Friday and Saturday the opening hours are 11am until 11pm.

Admission is 3.50, which includes a souvenir glass and a programme, except on Friday after 6pm, when admission is 5.

There will be more than 80 real ales, plus a selection of ciders and perries, and a collection of continental beers.

The festival will also feature beers from six new independent breweries, which are entering for the very first time.

There will also be three music acts making an appearance at the three-day celebration, to entertain visitors.

On Friday night, the Wallbirds will take to the stage and then, on Saturday, the Rockingham Brass Band will perform during the afternoon before Strange Triangle take over for the evening session.

This year's event is being staged at Doncaster College's Hub building, in the town centre.

Beer festival organiser and CAMRA membership secretary, Ian Jones, said: "More than 2,000 people visited the festival last year and its popularity continues to grow.

"We concentrate on brewers from Yorkshire, as they are widely-recognised for producing some of the country's finest real ales, but we will also be featuring a selection of some of the best breweries from further afield.

"I am sure this is going to be the biggest and best festival yet and we can't wait to welcome real ale fans from across the country."
