Nightmare at Ramsay's
CELEBRITY chef Gordon Ramsay's posh restaurant turned out to be a Kitchen Nightmare for a Doncaster bride-to-be.
Shocked Noelie Klineberg claims a visit to his restaurant at the five star Claridge's Hotel in London ended in disaster when she choked on clingfilm which she found in her meal and then went on to suffer food poisoning.
Noelie and her fianc, businessman Robin Goforth, were in London to pick up their wedding rings from Harrods when they decided to go to Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's in Mayfair because of its reputation and the celebrated chef's Michelin stars.
Noelie, who along with Robin has appeared on a number of reality television shows including Wife Swap, ordered scallops to start, followed by a lamb main course.
She says that when she started eating the lamb she thought it was chewy – until she started choking and discovered a piece of clingfilm which she claims was an inch and a half long.
She says she then began to feel unwell shortly before leaving the restaurant and was ill in their room at Claridge's.
Ms Klineberg says she believes she had suffered food poisoning and has reported the matter to Westminster Council's environmental health officers.
She said: "Friends had told me to go to Gordon Ramsay's because he's brilliant. We don't go to London a lot so we wanted to do something special.
"I had thought the scallops were a bit chewy but didn't want to say anything because I didn't want to cause a scene after Robin had taken me there.
"Then I was shocked to find clingfilm in the lamb. I said to them I don't know how you serve it in London, but up north we serve it with mint sauce, not clingfilm. I don't know if the clingfilm was an optional extra or if they charge for it!
"It's all very well Gordon Ramsay going off to America to sort out restaurants but he ought to get his own house in order first."
The couple were charged around 170 for the meal on their hotel bill the following day, but refused to pay.
Richard Block, Westminster City Council's operations manager for food, health and safety, said: "I can confirm that we have received a complaint regarding Gordon Ramsay's restaurant at Claridge's. A food safety officer has conducted an interview with the complainant and we will be carrying out further investigations."
A statement from Gordon Ramsay Holdings said they would very much like to discuss the individual concerns with Mr Klineberg.
It said: "Gordon Ramsay Holdings pride themselves on the highest level of guest care and will of course be discussing the points raised with the Gordon Ramsay at Claridge's team. Any complaints are taken very seriously by the company."
