News In Brief: Learn more at history course

PLACE Detectives is the title of a new daytime local history course starting at Doncaster Little Theatre tomorrow, from 10.30am to 12.30pm.

Course tutor Sarah Holland will take the 10-week course to help people discover more about the history and heritage of a variety of places through local, regional and national case studies by exploring buildings and landscapes, maps, directories, newspapers and other documentary evidence.

Firearm case

The case of a Doncaster man accused of illegally possessing a firearm and machete near his home in Dockin Hill Road last year has been adjourned. Frederick Robert Kaye, aged 24, will be sentenced at the crown court on Thursday.

Diesel spill

Fire crews were called to deal with a spillage of diesel fuel when a lorry overturned as it negotiated Moss Road at Moss, near Askern, in the early hours. The driver was not trapped and did not suffer serious injuries.

Star struck

the retired gentlemen of Tickhill and Bawtry Probus Club hold their annual general meeting at The Millstone Hotel on Thursday morning, followed by a talk on astronomy from Dennis Ashton, entitled Giants and Dwarfs.

Newsman dies

The funeral of former Doncaster Evening Post journalist Jack Clayton, who died on Christmas Day at the age of 90, was due to take place today at Rose Hill Crematorium.
