News In Brief: Fire scare after food left to burn

FIREFIGHTERS were called to a smoke-filled maisonette in Sheffield to find that a cooker had been left on with food inside.

There was nobody in the property on Firshill Croft, Pitsmoor, when crews arrived.

Flat probe

AN INVESTIGATION is under way into the cause of a fire in a Stocksbridge flat. The blaze is believed to have started in or near the TV but investigators are returning to the property to check. It broke out in the flat on Stanley Street at 1am yesterday. One man was treated at Barnsley District General Hospital for smoke inhalation.

BMW stolen

A BMW parked outside a house on Birkinstyle Lane, Shirland, north Derbyshire, was stolen when the keys were taken.The thief smashed a window and took the keys from the hallway of the house before driving off in the car at around 8.30pm on Monday.Call Derbyshire Police on 0345 1233333 with information.

Cars set alight

TWO cars found burning on Barnsley Road, Fir Vale, Sheffield, had been deliberately set alight. Firefighters extinguished the flames.

Flames fanned

FLAMES from an extractor fan caught fire and spread to the bathroom of a house on South Crescent, East Dene, Rotherham.

M1 ordeal

AN engine fault was to blame for a Mercedes Smart Car going up in flames between junctions 32 and 31 of the M1 at Thurcroft and Aston.

Sainbury's pharmacy at Crystal Peaks is offering shoppers the chance to get their cholesterol checked.

Van blaze

A VAN found burning on Cuthbert Bank Road, Walkley, Sheffield, had been deliberately set alight.

Caravan fire

AN ARSON attack has been blamed for a blaze which destroyed a caravan in Rotherham. It was parked at Lodge Lane Farm, Lodge Lane, Thorpe Hesley, when the fire broke out.

Car set alight

A VAUXHALL Corsa found burning on Scotia Drive, Manor, Sheffield, had been deliberately set alight.
