News in Brief: Customers help worthy causes

CUSTOMERS at Taylor's grocery store in Tickhill Market Place are raising money for good causes by contributing more than £1,000 by purchasing certain products from the shelves. The shop is only £500 off its target of £1,500 and the proceeds will be donated to Tickhill Juniors football teams.

Swim course

ADWICK Leisure Centre is running a personal survival course for children on Tuesday August 24 from 9am to 10am. Children must be able to swim 25 metres and tread water for 30 seconds. The cost is 4 with a Champion Sports pass or 6 without.

Fun activities

EAST Doncaster Development Trust is hosting a series of free fun activities on the car park of their premises on Station Road, Dunscroft, on Wednesday August 25 between 5pm and 7pm. For more information contact Sandra Walker on 01302 882355.

Striding out

DONCASTER Ramblers are planning a 12 mile walk around Wentworth, Elsecar, Thorpe Hesley and Greasbrough between Barnsley and Rotherham tomorrow morning.

Food market

Tram museum

THE CRICH Tramway Village in Derbyshire takes a step back in time during the bank holiday weekend when it celebrates 125 years of Blackpool trams. The venue will be transformed into olde Blackpool on August 29 and 30 with Punch and Judy shows, classic cars, buses and motorcycles on display and even a George Formby tribute act.

Parish clerk

VIJI Sivalingham of High Green, Sheffield, has been appointed as clerk to Ecclesfield Parish Council to succeed Philip Allass who has retired after 30 years. Mrs Sivalingham has been a business officer with Sheffield Council for eight years and previously worked in the banking industry for 20. Mr Allass will be presented with farewell gifts at a retirement do tonight by chairman Coun Norman Garratt.
