News In Brief: Councillors refuse more lights cash

TOWN councillors in Bawtry have declined to make a further contribution towards the cost of Christmas lights in The Courtyard.

They rejected a request from Community 4 Bawtry for a 50 donation because they had already paid for the town's festive lights display.

But they did agree in principle to C4B's request for 50 to produce a new visitor guide for Bawtry.

Village gala

misterton Parish Council has announced a date for this year's village gala, which will take place on Saturday July 9 on the Old School Field from 12pm to 5pm, with some new features promised for this year.

Walk this way

The next walk in the Get Doncaster Walking festival takes place on Saturday with an easy two mile stroll around Dunsville and the Quarry Park, starting from Dunsville Community Centre, High Street, at 10.30am.

Organist recital

organist Derek Grover, from St John's Church, Ranmoor, will be performing the next lunchtime recital at Doncaster Minster on Friday January 28 at 1.10pm. Admission is free but there will be a collection.

Maisonette fire

A FIRST floor maisonette found burning on Lister Avenue, Gleadless, Sheffield, was dealt with by firefighters. The fire was logged as an accidental blaze.

Battery fault

A TOYOTA Corolla caught fire on Chatterton Drive, Herringthorpe, Rotherham, after it developed a battery fault. Firefighters dealt with the incident.

Outhouse arson

A WOODEN outhouse on Wakefield Road, Smithies, Barnsley, went up in flames in a suspected arson attack. Firefighters tackled the blaze.

Car torched

A CAR found alight on Dearne Country Park's car park off Oakwell View, Barnsley, was so badly damaged it could not be identified. Firefighters extinguished the flames.

Motorbike blaze

FIRE crews were called out to Littleworth Lane, Lundwood, Barnsley, after a motorbike was found alight.The vehicle had been targeted by an arsonist.
