News In Brief: Bookworms are starting early

A FIVE-week course aimed at encouraging early learning for young children has got underway at Bawtry Library.

The Workers' Educational Association is running free two-hour Babies and Little Readers Into Books sessions on Fridays to give parents the opportunity to borrow good books, share stories, rhymes and songs and get ideas for fun things to do at home with their children.

Chimney blaze

FIRE crews were called to a house in Radburn Road, Rossington, to deal with a chimney fire and had to send for the aerial ladder platform to douse it from the roof. There was no damage to the property.

Store reopens

THE Wilkinson store in Doncaster's Frenchgate Centre is closed this week to complete the refit of the extended premises in readiness for reopening on Friday morning.

Gardeners' AGM

TICKHILL Horticultural Society holds its annual general meeting on Thursday which will be followed by a pie and pea supper and quiz in the Methodist Schoolroom.

Old snapshots

DONCASTER Archives in King Edward Road, Balby, is putting on an exhibition of photographic images on Thursday afternoon from 2pm to 5pm.
