New snub for South Yorks
SOUTH Yorkshire snubbed again, shock!
Thud! A hefty coffee table book entitled The Most Beautiful Villages in England (Thames & Hudson, 14.85) thuds onto the Diary's desk and excited fingers thumb through to the South Yorkshire section.
There isn't one. No Wentworth, Midhopestones, Hoylandswaine et al. So here's a picture of the old parish church at Wentworth to remind you. The nearest place listed to us is Edensor on the Chatsworth estate. Save your money.
Meanwhile, two reasons to be cheerful. Castleton gets two entries on the 100 best places to stand in the UK website - the Blue Jon (at number 51) and Speedwell Caverns (at 56). But no mention of Monsal Head. Check out www.stoodthere.com/uk if you've got five minutes to spare.
