Mum's anger as dog that attacked daughter is spared
A MUM is furious after a court decided a Rottweiler which left her child scarred and needing 17 stitches should not be destroyed.
Billie Marie Robinson had to have stitches in her right shin and the back of her leg after the dog sunk its teeth into her.
She was aged eight at the time of the attack in June 2009.
A judge has now decided the dog should be spared, but said owner Rachel Frost should make sure the pet, called Jake, is kept under control.
Recorder Abdul Iqbal also warned Rachel Frost that she could face further legal action if she fails to control the dog.
Frost, aged 30, had appeared in court charged with allowing the dog to be dangerously out of control in public, but the charges were dropped, and Recorder Iqbal bound her over to keep the peace.
The court heard Frost's son, Adam, sneaked out of the family home on West End Lane, Rossington, with the dog, on June 8 without telling anyone.
Michael Rawlinson, prosecuting, said a group of children started prodding the dog with sticks before Billie-Marie was bitten and added that the dog had not caused problems in the past.
But Billie Marie's mum Amanda Reid said afterwards: "I'm upset by the decision of the court.
"I think it is disgusting and I can't believe that the dog will not be destroyed.
"We had wanted a destruction order. What happened has affected Billy Marie's confidence."
