EDLINGTON'S Top Club is staging a fundraiser this week to raise money for a memorial to the town's former colliery.
The event will be held on Friday January 14 and the cash it generates will go towards building a memorial to the people who worked at the Yorkshire Main pit.
The Yorkshire Main Commemorative Trust has been set up by retired miners and union officials.
It hopes to make sure people do not forget the colliery which closed following the miners strike which ended in 1985.
The event at the Top Club, on Bungalow Road, starts at 6pm. Admission is 2.50.
Frank Arrowsmith, chairman of the commemorative trust, is hoping work on a memorial will start in March.
The memorial will include a wall of sponsored bricks.
