Man sent final text before killing himself

A TROUBLED man wrote a suicide note by text message before throwing himself off a bridge near the Trans-Pennine Trail at Conisbrough, a Doncaster inquest heard.

Cori Anthony Robinson sent his last text message to his wife just before 12.30pm last Tuesday and then jumped about 80ft to his death from the old railway viaduct over the River Don.

The 36-year-old was said to be affected by family problems but further details were not disclosed at the inquest.

Mr Robinson, a plant hire lorry driver, of Royal Avenue, Doncaster, suffered multiple injuries and would have died less than a minute after hitting the ground, said pathologist Jason Stone.

Widow Nicola Robinson gave evidence that her husband "had some family worries" but did not elaborate.

She said he had been concerned about them last Tuesday morning when he left home to visit his mother's house in Conisbrough.

She said she received a text from his mobile phone at 12.27pm but the contents of the message were not revealed to the court.

Pc Paul France said police and an ambulance were called to Conisbrough viaduct, which spans the River Don between Cadeby and Conisbrough, at 12.50pm after reports of a suicidal man on the bridge.

Mr Robinson's body was found a few minutes later near the Trans-Pennine Trail and his mobile phone was still in his pocket.

Pc France said Mr Robinson had sent two last text messages which were "consistent with the intention of the sender to end his own life".

Recording a verdict that Mr Robinson killed himself, Doncaster Coroner Stanley Hooper said he knew he had family worries and he went to the viaduct "and sent two text messages consistent with a settled intention to end his own life."

He said: "For his wife and others, what happened last Tuesday will be a cause of continued grief and shock and I express my sympathy to them."
