Look back at old pictures
LOCAL historian and Star columnist Peter Tuffrey has launched a new book with more old photographs of Doncaster, some never published before.
Doncaster Shops and Streets Through the Lens of Luke Bagshaw is a fascinating collection of archive photographs of the town's shops and streets in days gone by.
Luke chronicled almost every major constructional development in Doncaster between 1894 and 1930.
His collection of 190 images, taken from the original glass-plate negatives, encompasses shop fronts with their proud staff posed in front, and street scenes captured in the period before major demolitions or road alterations.
Each photograph is accompanied by a caption giving the full history of the scene.
Peter, who lives in Doncaster, has been writing about local history for many years.
He also writes a fortnightly column in the Doncaster Star.
