Let there be light as 16ft bulb arrives

A GIANT 16ft light bulb has arrived in Doncaster to provide illumination for those wanting to save energy and cut their bills.

Southern Electric, Gala Bingo and their charity partner Sue Ryder Care are offering consumers the chance to go green and save money by giving away three million energy-saving light bulbs at all Gala clubs and Sue Ryder Care shops across the UK

If all the bulbs given away are fitted, more than 11 million would be saved from people's energy bills each year across the UK, saving 39,200 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The giant replica energy- efficient bulb was taken to Gala Bingo Club at Wheatley this week where it was met by Deputy Mayor Stuart Exelby.

Coun Exelby said: "We are working very hard on the environment in Doncaster and the people of our borough, with it's proud mining history, know all about what it takes to produce power.

"Energy-saving light bulbs are a small but important step towards a better environment. Doncaster is one of 100 towns that Southern Electric, Gala Bingo and Sue Ryder Care have taken the roadshow."

By plugging in the light bulbs, consumers will find out if they have a winning green bulb, which could win them an eco-friendly Toyota Prius car or 1,000 to spend at the Southern Electric online store.
