Kidz bring a touch of magic to The Hub

DRAMA Kidz brought a touch of magic to The Hub at Doncaster College with the performance of 'The Magic Theatre'.

The drama school for children aged four to 16 has paired up with Children's University and was one of the first shows to be performed at the new theatre.

A total of 220 was raised for the local group of national children's charity HCPT, which takes local children with disabilities on holiday each year.

The Magic Theatre told the story of the grand theatre being shut down to make way for a youth centre, but once the children are inside the theatre comes to life.

Kerry Marshall, also known as Miss Drama by her students, said: "Drama Kidz students have worked really hard this past term and we were pleased to be holding this year's show at The Hub as we can attract a larger audience to help raise money for a well deserved cause."

Drama Kidz opened last year and Kerry was a finalist at the 2007 Discover the Spirit awards as Business Person of the Year.

Now the school has joined the Children's University project so all students who attend Drama Kidz can earn credits for taking part in out of school activities.

Linda Ward, project director for Children's University, said: "Children's University is a dynamic and innovative project aimed at helping to raise children's self esteem, achievements and learning aspirations.

"Drama is a unique stimulus to unlock a child's imagination and the students at Drama Kidz can earn credits for their hard work so when they have built up enough credits they can graduate."
