Joining forces to raise appetite for healthy food

STUDENTS from Doncaster College and Sheffield Hallam University have joined forces to promote healthy eating from an early age.

Eight childcare students from the college and nine undergraduate students from the university are working together on the Season It project, which aims to get young parents to feed their children healthy food.

The project, linked with government scheme AimHigher, started before Christmas and regular sessions have been taking place at the university and the college's Hub campus.

Childcare lecturer Jackie Dow said: "The project is all about changing the way children eat from a very early age. If children eat healthy at the start of their lives, it is easier to carry it on rather than get them to eat healthy in their teens.

"It's so good to see our students working together with undergraduates. This project has really given them an insight into what university life could be like and I think many will go onto higher education now."

The project will officially be launched on Wednesday March 19 at The Hub nursery and an awards ceremony will follow at Sheffield Hallam University on Thursday April 10.

All students involved in the project will be handing out free healthy food to staff, students and visitors at The Hub on March 19.
