Is your number up?

ONE fat lady? Not this girl. Don't tell your gran but this burlesque beauty is a bingo caller like you've never seen before.

But then The Underground Rebel Bingo Club night, coming to Sheffield next month, is not exactly your average Mecca.

The first rule: 'No old people'. The second: 'No-one boring'.

The organisers are being tongue-in-cheek, of course, ("Everyone's welcome, really," says tour manager Kimberley Waite) but this travelling theatre/gameshow/music tour is all about making bingo cutting edge and crazy.

"Essentially, it's a night where people come along, let their hair down, dance, drink, have fun - and play a couple of games of bingo," laughs Kimberley from the group's London base.

"We've toured the UK and US over the last 18 months now but this is the first time we've been to Sheffield.

"We tend to be popular with students and people who are bored of going to the same old clubs."

But why, your Diarist wonders, is the venue kept secret until two days before?

"It's because the bingo is so hardcore it has to be kept quiet from the authorities," says Kimberley.

Really?

"Well, no, it's because not knowing adds to people's excitement but I can say it will be somewhere grimy and rock and roll, and the bingo will be awesome."

Takes place on Wednesday February 2.
