How to get big red bus on stage for Summer Holiday
YOU can't do the musical Summer Holiday without a red London Routemaster bus. And thereby hangs a problem for Andrew Hibbert.
He's producing the show for Southey Musical Theatre Company at the Montgomery Theatre in November and the real bus measures 27 ft long by 8ft wide and 14 ft high.
Since the theatre's stage is two feet shorter that means he's going to have to scale things back.
Now he could play let's pretend with a model bus, like the one he's pictured with, or use a projection or backdrop. But instead he's going for an almost full-sized version.
"It's the same height but 19 feet long," says Southey's Danni Birks.
As Sir Cliff comes to the Arena in October he can always pop down and see how things are progressing with the set.
Southey's version of Summer Holiday runs from November 10-14.
