Help run kids' university

DONCASTER College has launched a search for volunteer mentors to help run the Doncaster Children's University.

The scheme was launched earlier this year after a successful pilot project involving two local schools. Its aim is to raise young people’s achievements, attainment, aspirations and self-esteem through “hands on” learning modules.

Doncaster Children’s University project director Linda Ward said: “We will deliver high-quality, out-of-school learning modules in schools and at The Hub. We intend to maximise children’s and young peoples learning potential and nurture a love of learning that will continue into adulthood.

“Our vision is to have an exciting and diverse Children’s University that will meet the learning needs of schools, children and the young people of Doncaster. It is our aim that in two years the DCU will be delivering learning modules across the borough engaging children, young people, parents, businesses, communities and other professional organisations in providing support to improve outcomes for Doncaster’s children.”

The modules include drama, fashion design, music and recycling. Among module titles are The Keepmoat Experience and Airport Encounter.

To volunteer, email linda.ward@don.ac.uk or call Linda Ward on 01302 553791.
