HEALTHY LIVING: Get your blood pressure checked at free sessions

GET your blood pressure checked out during National Heart Month by calling into free sessions being run at Barnsley Central Library.

Health trainers and stop smoking advisors will also be on hand at the sessions which run on Wednesday mornings from now until February 24.

The campaign aims to raise awareness that high blood pressure and smoking are two of the biggest causes of heart disease.

Coun Roy Miller, cabinet spokeman for customer and neighbourhood services, said: "Barnsley Libraries are delighted to be supporting this worthwhile campaign and urge local people to take up this free check."

The sessions run at the library in Shambles Street from 10am until 1pm.

Run for Marie Curie!

GET your heart beating during training for a challenge of a lifetime!

Sheffield's branch of Marie Curie Cancer Care has some places available for the New York Marathon and is appealing for people to sign up and take part on their behalf.

The 26.2 mile race through all of the Big Apple's five borough is a once in a lifetime experience - and is the ultimate challenge to get you into shape.

Holly Smith, Marie Curie Cancer Care fundraiser, said: "This is a great opportunity to put those get fit resolutions into practice for 2010 and join the experience of a lifetime in the Big Apple. All money raised will allow more Marie Curie Nurses to provide free care in the area for terminally ill people, so if you're going to run, run for us."
