Health bosses offering help to borough carers

NHS bosses are promising carers in a Doncaster village the chance to relax and unwind at a free event.

The drop-in session, which is also open to those being cared for, will provide carers in Askern with an opportunity to relax and have fun, says NHS Doncaster.

They can meet people in similar positions as themselves, and alternative therapy sessions and refreshments will be available.

The event takes place between 11am and 2pm at the Shakers youth centre on High Street tomorrow.

Members of NHS Doncaster's Test Your Heart team will be offering free heart checks to visitors and advice on healthy eating and smoke free homes will be available.

Sharon Grocock, public health development worker at NHS Doncaster, said: "Carers play a hugely important role and are one of the biggest savers on the NHS financial budget so it's vitally important that they are provided with the best possible information and support.

"Many carers have health problems of their own. They can often be suffering from depression, stress and back problems and struggle to find the time to address their own health needs." Contact Sharon on 07919 398 381 for details.
