Groups aim to keep eye on crime

HYDE Park Safer Neighbourhood Team officers are hoping to set up a number of Neighbourhood Watch groups across the Town Moor area.

The SNT is inviting residents to come along to two meetings if they would like to be involved.

The first, for residents of Craithie Road, Carisbrooke Road, Holyrood Road, Goldsborough Road and Braemar Road, will be held on Thursday February 18 at 7pm at the United Reform Church Hall on Ardeen Road in Intake.

A second meeting, for residents from Sandringham Road up to Zetland Road, Glamis Road, Strathmore Road, Avondale Road and Harewood Road, is on Thursday March 4 at 7pm at the same venue.

Officers from the police, fire and rescue and Doncaster Council as well as an area co-ordinator for Neighbourhood Watch will attend the meetings.

A Neighbourhood Watch scheme can help target local crime and help prevent it.

The group can find out from local people what crimes most concern and affect them and focus on those problems.

Sgt Garry West, from the Hyde Park SNT, said: “We wish to encourage as many people as possible to get involved in the scheme and welcome inquiries from people who would like to set up a scheme in their area.”

Anyone interested in setting up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme on their street in Hyde Park, Belle Vue or Balby Bridge Estate should contact the SNT on 01302 385339.
