Free laptops for new students
DONCASTER College bosses are putting up free laptops as an incentive to enrol on their latest course.
Youngsters aged between 16 and 19 not currently studying or in full-time employment could be eligible for the new Fresh Start course being delivered at The Hub.
Students would study on various short courses for 15 weeks, covering subjects such as hair and beauty, floristry, animal care, child care, performing arts, creative arts, hospitality and catering IT, travel and tourism, construction, technology and much more.
If the students then enrol and stay on a mainstream course at Doncaster College on completion, they will be given either a free laptop or free driving lessons.
Do you think offering a laptop or free driving lessons is a good idea? Add your comment below.
College principal Rowland Foote said: "This course is a perfect stepping stone for those students who want to get back into education and work towards a career.
"It could lead on to many other mainstream college courses and apprenticeship programmes - and of course there's a great incentive for these teenagers to get back into the learning world and make something of themselves."
The project kicked off on Thursday March 13 with an open day at The Hub. Dozens of children attended the event to find out more about what the new course can offer them. For more information about the scheme email infocentre@don.ac.uk, visit www.freshstartdon.co.uk or call 0800 358 7575.
