Former taxman lands post at Doncaster NHS trust

FORMER taxman John Parker is set to take a leading role in the running of the trust which runs Doncaster Royal Infirmary.

Mr Parker is set to join the Doncaster and Bassetlaw Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Trust as a non-executive director and will start a three-year term of office from April 1.

Chris Scholey, chairman, of the board said: "I'm delighted that we have been able to appoint such a high-calibre candidate to our non-executive vacancy. "John will bring hisknowledge and experience of finance and accounting to the Board, as weaim to improve services for patients in thechallenging times ahead."

Bosses at the trust say John has gained a wealth of finance and accountancy experience, and is currently a senior lecturer in finance and accounting at Sheffield Hallam University Business School - a position he has held since September 2005.

John worked as Finance Director for the British Geological Survey between January and September 2005, taking overall responsibility for the financial and management accounts of an 80m business.

In 1988, John began a long stint working for HM Inland Revenue, progressing from position of Inspector of Taxes, to District Inspector for Rotherham in 1992.

He spent 10 years as Deputy Director of Learning between 1994 and 2004, holding overall responsibility for financial training within the Inland Revenue.

He replaces non-executive director, Paul Waterhouse, whose term of office ends on March 31.
