Footballers hope to net support for College's new education scheme
FOOTBALLING stars from Doncaster Rovers are hoping to help propel the borough's students up the education league tables.
Soccer stars Paul Heffernan, James O'Connor, Ben Smith and Matt Noble turned out with manager Sean O'Driscoll to launch Doncaster College's Heading for Success project at The Keepmoat Stadium
The scheme aims to give people the chance to improve their reading, writing and maths skills.
The reading, writing and maths classes will focus on a wide range of football related topics including basic match analysis, player interviews and reporting techniques, through to sports management and administration tasks.
Classes run each Wednesday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
Doncaster College's deputy head of wellbeing, Glenn Hazelhurst said: "Over the past few months we have been working very closely with Doncaster Rovers to develop and establish the project.
"We are looking forward to a really exciting time as we continue to develop and possibly add other sport and health-related pathways to the Heading for Success programme."
