Flood-hit school gets new playground thanks to Rotary Club
THIS time last year they were in temporary classrooms - but today they have new state-of-the-art play equipment at their school.
Toll Bar Primary School has unveiled a new playground for its youngest pupils at its Askern Road site, which was officially opened by Jack Cusworth, president of the Rotary Club of Doncaster St Leger. The club helped pay for the playground and equipment - for the school's three to five year olds - with a donation from its fundraising work.
The school's main building was only reopened last month after the completion of repair work to the damage caused by the floods of June 2007.
Headteacher Jill Northwood said: "All our outdoor play equipment disappeared in the flood, but the Doncaster St Leger rotary club decided to help as part of their flood relief campaign.
"For the children, it is absolutely brilliant. Last year we had bikes and trikes for them to use, but no climbing frames. The outside part of the school is really a classroom too and now we can deliver an enriched curriculum because of these facilities."
The school is now working on an environmental area as the next stage of its recovery from the floods, where children will be able to learn about plants and wildlife.
