Fledgling businesses forget the recession and focus on success

ENTREPRENEURS did their best to forget the recession at the first Success Doncaster showcase event at The Dome.

More than 100 local businesses supported by the Success Doncaster programme showcased their products and networked with like-minded individuals.

They were inspired by guest speakers including The Apprentice finalist Kristina Grimes and motivational expert Kevin Mincher, followed by performances from local dance schools and Doncaster's M101 band.

Mayor Martin Winter, who formally opened the event, said: "From a business point of view this event enabled the local people and businesses in Doncaster to see what is available locally, what help is available to individuals and businesses, and inspire others to start their own business."

"The event provided a platform for local businesses, new and existing, to get together, learn about new opportunities, share ideas and work more closely."

Clare Hay from Doncaster Leaflet Distribution said: "We were delighted to take part in the Success Doncaster showcase event.

We found the day to be fruitful in terms of interest for our products and services, receiving many enquiries from businesses and the general public who had not heard of us or did not know what we could offer."

Top of the bill was The Apprentice star who told how she was determined to prove that being a single mother at the age of 17 would not prevent her becoming a successful businesswoman.

She also be talked about opportunities that are available within the current economic climate.

The five members of M101 told how they produced a demo which was submitted to the Orange Unsigned Act competition and will be featured on the prime time Channel 4 show as one of the most promising up and coming artists in the country.
