Fashion students turn on the style

DONCASTER'S latest wave of budding Stella McCartneys and Vivienne Westwoods took a step towards their dreams - with their biggest fashion show yet.

Dozens of fashion design students from Doncaster College and University Centre Doncaster saw their work on public display thanks to the college catwalk at its town centre site next to the River Don.

And the range of clothes designs, which were aimed at both men and women and ranged from formal wear to partywear, turned the heads of fellow students, relatives and textiles experts who watched as the models paraded the clothes

College spokesman Matt Needham described the annual show as one of the most highly-anticipated events of the year among students and lecturers.

The students, from the College's BTEC National Diploma in Fashion and Clothing and the University Centre's BA (Hons) Fashion and Textiles Design, BA (Hons) Combined Design and Business Start Up in Art and Design, showed off their collections at The Hub over two days.

Mr Needham said: "The event showcased the up and coming design talent from South Yorkshire and included exciting and original collections of group fashion projects and final year individual work.

"Fashion students worked alongside hair and beauty, music technology and digital video pupils from the College and University Centre to ensure the two-day event was a success."

Many of the clothes on show at the event are due to be seen by the public again later this year.

Some of the collections have recently been displayed in the Museum of London and later this year, and many graduating students will be showing off their design work at Graduate Fashion Week at Earl's Court, London.
