Exhibition marks disruption caused by flooding

A MUSEUM exhibition in Doncaster this summer will remember the disastrous floods of 2007, it has been announced.

The floods of two years ago caused widespread damage and disruption and had a profound effect on people across Doncaster, say bosses at the museums service who will be staging the event.

The exhibition will also look at how the communities affected have recovered and document the events through photos, poems and other items contributed by communities affected.

It will also take a look at the history of flooding in Doncaster and how communities responded.

During the exhibition visitors will be able to record their experiences of the floods and their own personal story - and after it finishes the exhibition will form part of the Doncaster historical archives.

Doncaster Council managing director Paul Hart said: "The flooding in Spring 2007 caused massive disruption to many residents, with many needing to evacuate their homes. What got us through, what was Doncaster's worst natural disaster in 60 years, was the way in which we pulled together, kept positive and helped each other through. This exhibition gives residents a chance to remember the floods and share their memories and experiences with others."

The Voices of the Floods Exhibition runs from Saturday August 15 to Sunday September 13 at Doncaster Museum and Art Gallery on Chequer Road.

Anyone interested in contributing photos or other memories of the floods can contact the Central Library, which will be digitally scanning images on Monday July 6 and Monday July 13.
