Cricket club celebration

A CRICKET match is being played at Tickhill's Alderson Drive ground on Sunday to mark a golden jubilee.

Tickhill resident Rita Harper and her late husband Terry, who were hosts at the Royal Oak public house on Northgate for many years, were the co-founders 50 years ago of Rotherham Locusts cricket team.

The club is '50 not out' this year and is still playing Sunday friendly matches - and to mark its undefeated half-century an anniversary match is being played against Tickhill CC at 2pm. Playing in the Rotherham Locusts team will be Rita's three sons - Martin, Steven and Jon.

It will be followed by a reunion supper and all former Rotherham Locusts players and supporters will be made welcome.

Information from Rita on 01302 744643 or from Danny Brailsford on 01709 511581.
