City project advises parents on the best course of action

Sheffield Parent-to-Parent Project has teamed up with The Star to advise parents on the best course of action.
This week is also Contraceptive Awareness Week so there's no better time to get talking.
The Parent-to-Parent project is supported by the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health, which is part of Sheffield Primary Care Trust.
Over the last 10 years, this project has been working with Sheffield parents and carers to increase their skills and confidence in dealing with health, relationships and sexual health issues.
Steve Slack, Director for the Centre for HIV and Sexual Health and spokesperson for the Sheffield Teenage Pregnancy Partnership, said: "Young people tell us that they prefer to receive the facts about relationships and sexual health from their parents and carers in order to make healthier choices in terms of relationships and future sexual activity."
"We wholeheartedly support the excellent work of Parent-to-Parent which has been recognised nationally.
"Their work is an important part of the Teenage Pregnancy Strategy in Sheffield to ensure that parents and carers have the skills, knowledge and confidence to enable them to have these, often difficult, conversations with their sons and daughters."
The Parent-to-Parent Project conducts informal, friendly seminars including peer group work with other parents. The project focuses on giving parents and carers the skills and confidence to raise and discuss issues with their sons and daughters at a time and a level that they judge appropriate, rather than telling parents and carers what and when to tell their sons and daughters.
